Check-in #2: Fundraiser Wrap-Up, Stats, and The Next Phase!
Do you like infographics? Good, because so do we....
Here's our Campaign Wrap-Up! We're so excited to talk about all the points you see here, and give you a glimpse into the post-fundraiser phase of the zine.
- We raised $1337 of gross funds from May 19-July 31. After giving itch.io their fair share for hosting, along with various processing fees, that brings our net funds to $1,142.33.
- Our highest donator gave us a whopping $200 (you are TOO kind!), followed by another donator giving $97.50. We love you!!
- The country with the most donators was the United States, followed by Great Britain and Australia. (This list only includes donators and not Community Fund members)
- In the span of 48 hours, we smashed our initial goal and managed to reach 2 more stretch goals! This means everyone who wants zines will absolutely be getting them. But not only that, we were able to ensure all Community Fund members get a copy, AND get free shipping anywhere in the world. Your generosity made a huge difference, as several Community Fund members would not have been able to afford shipping.
- We will know if we can cover domestic shipping once we get a final tally on how many zines to print (more on that later!), so stay tuned.
- We hit 344 PDF downloads of the zine, meaning around 1/3 of all downloaders chose to donate to the fundraiser. And remember - you can still download the PDF completely free today! Tell your friends and family, pets, significant others, etc.
Now, let's talk where we're going from here.
Firstly: If you are part of a select few who donated and did not fill out the exit survey - you received an email this morning! We're just making 100% sure we know how many zines to order, and roughly where to send them so we can estimate shipping. If you were the lucky recipient of that email, please fill out the exit survey no later than August 15 (one week from today). If you do not, you will just be marked down to receive one copy of the zine, and the rest of your generous donation will be rolled into the funds for shipping and charity.
Once we have all the data we need, it's time to let our manufacturer know the magic number of zines to print. Which brings us to our next important point:
Every time from here on out that we initiate a withdrawal from our balance here on itch.io, we will be posting about it right here in a Developer Log. You will see receipts that show where every single dollar is going. Our first withdrawal is going to be the biggest, as we will be taking out the funds to directly pay our zine manufacturer. Keep your eyes peeled here for that!
After the manufacturer receives the zine and gets to work printing them, we will evaluate our remaining funds and divvy them up as such:
- Covering the cost of shipping Community Fund zines - confirmed doable.
- Covering the cost of domestic shipping - if possible.
- Covering the cost of int'l shipping (IF we get to this point, int'l recipients can choose to voluntarily pay for shipping in order to have more of our total funds go to the Crisis Text Line)
At which point, we will start reaching out to get addresses and let people know whether shipping is covered, or if they will be responsible for paying shipping.
In the sake of transparency: the plan right now for acquiring shipping costs will be opening a separate itch.io campaign specifically for people to pay their quoted shipping cost. We don't feel comfortable using PayPal or a third-party site, as folks might argue it's easier to fudge numbers. Keeping it localized to itch.io lets us show you all the stats and remain accountable. When you visit our homepage, it will look something like this:
After shipping info/funds are received, we'll do a big 'ol print of all the shipping labels we need. Then once the zines arrive in our hands, we'll package them up nicely, slap the labels on, and take them to the post office. We'll start with shipping out Community Fund and domestic mail first (we're using Media Mail for all our US recipients), then international afterwards.
And once they get into everyone's hands, we'll take whatever's left and donate it to Crisis Text Line!
Phew, that's a lot of information. If you made it this far, thank you so much for sticking with us. As always, if you have questions we didn't answer, feel free to reach out in our Discord if you are there, or email us at worshipfanzine@gmail.com.
We once again are so, so very thankful for everyone who has believed in our little team as we navigate a project that, frankly, we had no idea would get so damn big. It has been an honor to be part of this and we cannot wait to get this amazing collection of art and writing into your hands and onto your bookshelves!
